Tip #4

Web

Ditch the site visitor counter

Years ago, most sites had visitor counters. But back then most sites had flashing text and garish, vomit inducing, psychedelic designs were all the rage. Times change. Sadly, many websites don't.

It's important for you as the website owner to know how many people are visiting each page, but your site visitors don't care how many visitors you've had, and seeing relics like this on your webpages could turn off potential customers.

There is a huge variety of analytical tools available (many for free) which let you track this information without imposing it on your visitors. Google Analytics for example not only counts page views but lets you analyse this information in so much more detail than any site counter. Content Management Systems have plugins or widgets that can be added to keep this information on your private admin dashboard where it belongs.

Remember, if the visitor doesn't need to see it, don't include it.
